Long Island’s Early-Fall Season September Round-up

September on Long IslandSome may call me biased, but I truly believe that there is no better place to live and work than here on Long Island.

Part of being a Long Islander is that we get to experience four very unique seasons.  From 3 feet of snow in the winter, to countless planting fields abounding with flowers in spring, to hot summer days spent along Long Island’s coastline in the summer, to the beautiful changing foliage and pumpkin picking of fall, we get to see, live, and enjoy it all.  With the summer season coming to an end, we thought there’s no better time than now to begin planning things to do while we enjoy Long Island’s early-fall season.  Below is a list of Long Island weekend happenings for the month of September when the weather gets crisp and the scarves come out.  Pumpkin spiced latte, anyone?

September 12-13

Harbes Family Farm Apple Picking Festival | 5698 Sound Ave., Riverhead
Celebrate the start of the East End’s apple season with corn mazes, pony and hayrides, music, food, vendors, and for mom or dad, wine tasting from Harbes Family Vineyard. Apples are within reach of the smallest hands, so even the youngest of kids can join the party.

36th Annual Grande Festa Italiana | North Hempstead Beach Park, Port Washington
Wednesday, September 9th through Sunday, September 13th
$3 per person, $25 for all-access to the rides
Join the largest and oldest feast on Long Island, with rides, games, and entertainment in addition to lots and lots of great Italian food!

BMW Car Club Car Show at Pindar Vineyards | 37645 Main Road, Peconic
Saturday, September 12th
Sip a glass of local wine and check out a variety of beautiful BMWs.

 

September 19-20

Hamptons Yoga Fest at Hayground School | 151 Mitchell Lane, Bridgehampton
$20 admission excluding classes, free for kids 15 and under
At this first-ever yoga fest, yoga classes are available for children and adults, as well as cooking classes for kids, art classes for kids and adults, live music, and healing seminars.

Long Island Garlic Festival at Garden of Eve Organic Farm |  4558 Sound Avenue, Riverhead
$5 per person
At Long Island’s only garlic festival you can check out a variety of vendors offering garlic-inspired foods, crafts, and music, as well as regular garlic to eat and plant.

Chamber of Commerce Williston Day Street Fair| Hillside Avenue, Williston Park
Sunday, September 20th, 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Free event
Celebrate Williston Day by perusing the over 200 local and outside vendors, and enjoying a live DJ, hula hoop contest, classic cars, karate demonstration, kids’ rides, pony rides, and lots of giveaways.  Food will be provided by Williston’s local restaurants.  Rain date is Sunday, September 27.

Farmingdale Village Downtown Music Festival| | Farmingdale Village, Main Street
Festival is free to attend and will be held from 1PM – 9:30PM on Saturday 9/19, and 1PM to 7:30PM on Sunday 9/20.

Three stages. Kids Zone, Kids Stage including I Love Reading & Magic, Very Cool Music School and School of Rock performances.

25th Annual Long Island Apple Festival | Sherwood-Jayne Farm, Old Post Road, East Setauket
September 20, 2015, 11am-4pm
Free admission
The whole family will enjoy a host of activities including old-fashioned games like apple relay races, tug-o-war, and apple-head doll making. The festival features pony rides and an open-hearth colonial cooking demonstration, an Apple Pie Baking Contest and tours of the historic Sherwood-Jayne House. The town will also be leading hikes at noon and 2pm.

 

September 26-27

4th Annual Long Beach International Film Festival | Coastline of Long Beach
Thursday, September 24th through Sunday, September 27th, 10:00 AM – 11:30 PM
Passes range from $150 to $350
Film buffs can revel in the action-packed lineup of independent and studio films from around the globe, with over 50 movies being shown.  Craft beer, wine, and food will also be available for purchase.

St. Jude Walk to End Childhood Cancer at Bethpage Ballpark | 3 Court Houseship, Central Islip
Saturday, September 26th, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
$10 per person
Contribute to St. Jude and help raise awareness of how the world understands, treats, and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases.

Greenport Maritime Festival at Greenport Village | Greenport
Friday, September 25th through Sunday, September 27th
Free event
Support the restoration of the Long Beach Bar “BUG” Lighthouse and other educational programs by taking part in maritime events such as the Land and Sea Greenport Gala (tickets are $75 in advance, $100 at the door), featuring cuisine from 25 East End restaurants, 6 wineries, and a craft beer sponsor, as well as locally designed memorabilia and other unique shopping experiences.

5k Run/Walk to Break the Silence on Ovarian Cancer at Belmont Lake State Park | North Babylon
Saturday, September 26th, 8:30 AM – 1:00 PM
$35 per person
Run, walk, or volunteer to help raise awareness about ovarian cancer, celebrate ovarian cancer survivors, and remember those who lost their lives to ovarian cancer.
